Naughty and nice: Billy Bob and Jimmy

It's a quiet week for movie events, but note that the Grand Illusion is continuing its annual holiday run of the 1946 Frank Capra classic "It's a Wonderful Life," with daily screenings through Thursday (including Christmas Day). Go and watch Jimmy Stewart race through the streets of Bedford Falls; it's a sure cure for any holiday blues.

Also at the Grand Illusion and appropriate for the season: late-night screenings of Terry Zwigoff's black comedy "Bad Santa," featuring Billy Bob Thornton as a nasty department-store Claus. Both at 1403 N.E. 50th St., Seattle; for showtimes and more information, see www.grandillusioncinema.org or call 206-523-3935.

And at midnight tonight and Saturday, the Egyptian presents Garth Jennings' enjoyable movie version of Douglas Adams' best-selling book, "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," featuring narration by Stephen Fry and a theme song ("So Long, and Thanks For All the Fish") that you will never, ever get out of your head. I'm humming it right now. The film's a bit of a mishmash, but it's all good fun, particularly Alan Rickman's voice performance as the doleful robot Marvin. Egyptian, 805 E. Pine, Seattle; 206-781-5755 or www.landmarktheatres.com.
