'NorWesCo' lands on top of softball Senior All-Star Challenge

TUKWILA — They call themselves NorWesCo, because "WesCo/Northwest 3A League" is a bit lengthy.
After last night, they can also call themselves champions of the Senior All-Star Challenge fastpitch softball tournament at Fort Dent Park.
The NorWesCo squad won the four-team event with an 8-5 victory over the team from the South Puget Sound League and Seamount League's King Division.
The team from the KingCo 3A/4A and Metro League finished third with a 3-2 win over the Narrows League, Seamount Pierce, Pac-9 team.
The NorWesCo team pounded out eight runs on 12 hits to win the championship game, led by three-hit efforts from Mountlake Terrace's Briana Knight and Everett's Tori Coury and Amy Hudson.
"Fun is always the most important part of games like this," said Knight, whose RBI double in an earlier 2-1 win over the KingCo/Metro team was her team's only hit in the game. "Being competitive is part of that fun, though. You always want to win."
Coury was 3 for 3 with a double and two RBI in the championship game, and Hudson was 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI.
The WesCo/Northwest League team won its first game despite strong pitching performances from Eastlake's Caitlin Noble and Skyline's Adreanne Lewis. Noble struck out 10 in four innings, but allowed two runs, including one on Knight's double.
Noble also hit a sixth-inning solo home run in the game, and was 4 for 6 with two RBI in the two games.
