Police conduct usual jaywalking crackdown in downtown Seattle

SEATTLE — Police said there was nothing unusual about a crackdown on jaywalking at a downtown intersection this morning.

At the corner of Fourth Avenue and Cherry Street, motorcycle officers handed out $46 citations to pedestrians who didn't use the crosswalk or crossed the busy intersection without a green light.

The citations are part of the Seattle Police Department Traffic Unit's rounds throughout the city, Seattle Police spokesman Duane Fish said. Patrols rotate to different locations in the city every week.

Officers pick the locations based on complaints from businesses and people in those areas, Fish said.
