Lectures

• Mary Sheedy Kurcinka, author of "Raising Your Spirited Child," will offer parenting advice during two lectures: 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Spring Valley School, Campus 2, 37515 Eighth Ave. S., Federal Way, and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Town Hall, 1119 Eighth Ave., Seattle. $12 advance tickets (until noon on the day of lecture), $15 at the door. 206-441-0191.

Local classes

• Parenting the Challenging Child, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, July 9-Aug. 27, Kent United Methodist Church, 11010 S.E. 248th St., Kent. This ACAP Child & Family Services class is free but it requests a $20 donation for materials. Free child care available for ages 2 to 9. 253-939-0870, Ext. 16.

• The Parenting Place in Bremerton will offer its eight-week "The Challenging Child" class in the fall. 360-473-2134.

• A four-week Parenting Your Spirited Child class will be offered by the Family Support Center of South Snohomish County in Lynnwood this fall. If there is enough interest, it might do a summer class as well. 425-670-8984. Free, some child care available.
