Olympia fire damages landmark restaurant

OLYMPIA — A two-alarm fire caused an estimated $250,000 in damage to a landmark waterfront restaurant early yesterday.

Firefighters were called to the Genoa Restaurant after a KGY Radio employee reported flames shooting from the roof of the building around 1:30 a.m. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire, which burned the kitchen and spread through a remodeled ceiling space, was under investigation.

The restaurant building served as the "Home of the Living Light" exhibit for the American Plywood Association at the 1962 World's Fair in Seattle. It was barged to Olympia a year later.
