Mariner High teen collapses and dies

EVERETT - A 16-year-old Mariner High School student died this morning after collapsing in her first-period computer class. The cause of death was not immediately known.

The teen, whose name was not released by Mukilteo School District officials, complained of a headache then fell to the floor shortly before 8 a.m., said Andrew Muntz, a school district spokesman.

The school nurse performed CPR on the girl until medics arrived minutes later. She was taken to Providence Everett Medical Center’s Colby Campus and pronounced dead. Muntz said the teen’s parents were at the hospital when the girl died.

An announcement of the girl’s death was read across the school loudspeaker at around 9 a.m. The district has brought in grief counselors to speak with Mariner students.
