Sheriff's deputies said Harrison, who had an extensive criminal history, aimed the stolen car he was driving at a deputy when officers, with guns drawn, had it surrounded. Deputy Curtis Timby, whose foot was run over, fired a shot and hit Harrison in the chest.
Harrison's passenger then apparently took over the driving and went two miles before police were able to force the car to a stop on 17th Street Southeast in Auburn. Scott W. Brewer of Seattle was arrested during a struggle after he got out and ran.
Brewer, 21, was booked into jail for investigation of assault. He already was wanted on charges of auto theft and possession of stolen property, police said.
The 10-mile chase started between Federal Way and Auburn near Highway 167 and South Peasley Canyon Road after the driver ran a red light.
Court records show Harrison had been arrested a number of times and convicted of theft, possessing firearms, car theft and harassment, among other crimes.
Timby, 39, has been a deputy for 11 years. A review board will investigate the shooting and the chase to determine whether Timby followed Sheriff's Office procedures. Meanwhile, he has been put on paid administrative leave, as is customary in such cases.
Sheriff's officials said there is nothing so far that indicates any violations on Timby's part.
