Actor David Dukes dies near Tacoma

SPANAWAY, Pierce County - Veteran actor David Dukes collapsed and died during a day off from filming the Stephen King miniseries "Rose Red" south of Tacoma. He was 55.

Mr. Dukes collapsed Monday evening and was pronounced dead at St. Clare Hospital in Lakewood. It appeared the cause of death was a heart attack, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office.

Mr. Dukes was in the mini series "The Winds of War" and was known to younger viewers as Mr. McPhee on the WB television series "Dawson's Creek."
