Times stars of the week

Kevin Engelhardt, Highline track and field

Engelhardt, a senior, turned in a pair of impressive performances at the Seamount League championship meet, sweeping the 1,600 in 4:19.17 and the 3,200 in 9:19.39. His time in the 1,600 was a meet record and the second-best finish among Class 3A runners this season. He took over the 3A lead with the 3,200 time.

Cherron Davis, Auburn Riverside track and field

The junior thrower shattered the South Puget Sound League sub-district meet record in the shot put with a heave of 46 feet, 2 1/2 inches, a state best this year and one of the top 20 throws ever by a Washington prep girl. Davis added a victory in the discus (130-0) and placed second in the javelin (100-9).

Jefferson baseball team

The Raiders, coached by John Stephens, advanced to the Class 4A state baseball tournament by knocking off third-ranked Kelso 10-8 in the District 3-4 tournament. They rallied from a 7-6 deficit in the seventh. Earlier in the week, Jefferson earned the South Puget Sound League's No. 3 seed into the district tournament by beating Auburn 9-4. Keaka Frank homered in both games.
