Chris Cornell is a Seattle native who became an international rock star. Here's a timeline of his career.
July 20, 1964 - Born in Seattle.
1964-1979 - Grows up in the Greenwood district, near 115th Avenue and Dayton Street. Attends Christ the King Catholic grade school ("You could throw a rock at it from my house. And I did."), Thomson Junior High and P.S. 1, an alternative high school. Earns GED at age 15.
1979-82 - Gets into trouble for stealing cars, selling drugs and committing burglaries ("I was lucky. I almost never got caught."). Finds job as dishwasher in a Seattle restaurant.
1982-83 - Plays drums in several Seattle bands, along with roommate Hiro Yamamoto, a bassist. Meets guitarist Kim Thayil through Yamamoto.
1984 - Forms Soundgarden (named after lakeside sculpture at Magnuson Park) with Thayil, Yamamoto and drummer Scott Sundquist. Plays local clubs.
1985-88 - Soundgarden makes its recording debut with a song on the compilation album "Deep Six." Matt Cameron replaces Sundquist. Soundgarden signed by Sub Pop. Releases first single, "Hunted Down," and two EPs, "Screaming Life" and "FOPP."
November 1988 - Soundgarden releases debut album, "Ultramega OK," on the SST label.
March 1989 - Band signs with A&M.
Oct. 7, 1989 - Soundgarden opens its first major national tour at the Moore Theatre.
1990 - Jason Everman replaces Yamamoto. Then Ben Shepherd replaces Everman.
March 10, 1990 - Soundgarden releases major-label debut album, "Louder Than Love," on A&M.
April 1991 - "Temple of the Dog" album, featuring Cornell and Eddie Vedder, released.
Sept. 24, 1991 - Soundgarden's "Badmotorfinger" album released.
July 1992 - Soundtrack to "Singles," featuring Cornell solo cut, released.
March 26, 1994 - Soundgarden's "Superunknown" album released. Thanks to hit single "Black Hole Sun," it sells more than 3 million copies.
May 21, 1996 - Soundgarden's "Down on the Upside" album released.
April 9, 1997 - Soundgarden announces it has broken up.
Sept. 21, 1999 - "Euphoria Morning" is released.
Feb. 7, 2000 - Cornell is scheduled to play here again, at the Paramount Theatre Ballroom.
