`Comfort Station' Added To Tour?

SEATTLE - The Underground Tour company wants to include an old "comfort station" on its popular tour of old Seattle beneath Pioneer Square.

The below-grade bathroom operated between 1910 and 1950 near the pergola at the edge of the historical district. It features brass fixtures, tile walls and marble stalls. The Underground Tour would spend $150,000 to help shore up the pilings, which have become waterlogged, and to create a sidewalk entrance connecting to stairs leading to the bathroom.

Steve Crosier, general manager of the tour, said the company is working with the Seattle Parks Department on the project.
