FOX Island Woman Dies In Oregon Wreck

WILSONVILLE. Ore. - A Fox Island woman was killed and a companion from Gig Harbor was seriously injured in a 10-car pileup near a construction zone on Interstate 5 Tuesday. The accident prompted the Oregon Department of Transportation to impose an emergency speed limit today.

Investigators still do not know the exact cause of the multiple accident. But state highway officials acted swiftly yesterday to reduce speeds near the Boone Bridge in south Wilsonville from 65 mph to 55 mph.

Truine Anna Slotke, 68, of Fox Island, died in the crash. She was a passenger in a car driven by Eunice Brodde, 73, of Gig Harbor,

who was in serious condition at OHSU Hospital in Portland.

Authorities say excessive speed, slick roads and heavy traffic in the work zone might have contributed to the pileup that halted southbound traffic for about nine hours.
