Man, Woman Hang Themselves From Busy Bridge In Portland

PORTLAND - A young man and woman dressed in grunge clothing hanged themselves from a single rope on a busy commuter bridge yesterday.

The woman was identified as Mora Kathleen McGowan, 25, of Portland. The man could not be identified immediately but was 28 and also from the Portland area, said Terry Sparks, deputy Multnomah County medical examiner.

The couple apparently split the end of a single rope into two nooses and jumped off the Steel Bridge, which spans the Willamette River just north of downtown. Their bodies dangled from the bridge at eye level of a passing passenger train.
