Prep Beat -- South End Will Send Four To All-State Baseball Series
Dave Ingram of Kentridge and Mark Ferrer of Tyee head a group of four South End players selected for the 15th annual All-State baseball series Saturday and Sunday at Eastmont High School in East Wenatchee.
Ingram, a right-handed pitcher who will play at San Diego State, is a two-time member of the All-South Puget Sound League North Division first team. He is on the 4A/B National team.
Ferrer, a shortstop who batted .535 and was voted the Seamount League's most valuable player, is a member of the 3A/2A/1A American team, along with Lindbergh third baseman Travis Perry.
Shortstop Flynn Cochran of Kent-Meridian, another All-SPSL first-team choice, will play with the 4A/B Americans.
Outfielders Jake Sampson of Curtis and Shane Santman of Puyallup are the only other SPSL players selected. Although they are from 4A schools, both will play for the 3A/2A/1A National team to balance the available position players. The 4A/B National squad includes three 3A infielders.
The opening game at 12:30 p.m. Saturday has the 4A/B Americans against the 3A/2A/1A Americans. The 4A/B Nationals play the 3A/2A/1A Nationals at 3:30 p.m. The losers square off Sunday at 10:30 a.m., while the winners play at 1:30 p.m. All games are eight innings.
