Doctor's License Suspended
OLYMPIA - A Bellingham physician disciplined for sexual abuse three years ago had his medical license suspended last week for allegedly violating terms of his probation.
The state Medical Quality Assurance Commission, which regulates Washington physicians, said an immediate suspension of Dr. Gary Chiarottino's license was necessary "to protect public health, safety and welfare."
The commission said Chiarottino allegedly prescribed medications improperly, hid patient charts that were to be reviewed by the state Department of Health and falsified records to indicate a chaperone was present during examinations of female patients.
Chiarottino has 20 days to respond to the allegations. The 19-member commission can schedule a prompt hearing to settle the case, if he requests it. He could face indefinite suspension of his medical license.
