Kmart To Close Its Store In Federal Way In December

TROY, Mich. - As part of Kmart's strategy to evaluate its stores, the Federal Way store located at 1207 S. 320th St. will close its doors permanently Dec. 11.

Due in part to increased competition with other discount chains such as Wal-Mart and Target, Kmart has had financial difficulty during the past few years and disappointing earnings. The company has said it would study its more than 2,000 stores across the nation, deciding which should be expanded, refurbished, relocated or closed.

Kmart officials said they hope their Kent store can serve customers of the Federal Way outlet, which had been open for 19 years.

The company operates Kmart and Builders Square stores throughout the United States and Canada and, through a joint venture, in Mexico.
