Girls basketball -- Newport Captures Crown

BELLEVUE - No players scored in double figures, but the Newport Knights had enough firepower to beat Juanita 45-39 last night in the Sound Division girls championship game of the Adidas Holiday Tournament.

Sophone Nadine Levsey and Stephanie Collett each had eight points for Newport. Shennae McNairy scored 14 and Jennifer Kutz added 12 for Juanita.

McNairy was named MVP in the Sound Division.

Blanchet beat Roosevelt 55-35 in the tournament's Mountain Division title game on Friday night. Blanchet's Monique Zampera was named MVP in that division.

OTHER GAMES

Mercer Island 61, Holy Names 54 - Dana Purcell scored 19 points, Maya Jones added 16 and Jamie Richards totaled 14 as the Islanders claimed third place in the Sound Division of the Adidas Holiday Tournament. Heather Allen scored 16 points for Holy Names.

King's 63, Seattle Lutheran 46 - Heather Reichmann scored 17 points, grabbed 19 rebounds and was named tournament MVP as King's won the Cedarcrest tournament. Brittany Christopher scored 10 points for the Saints (4-5).

Crescemt Valley (Corvallis, Ore.) 61, Redmond 51 - Crescent Valley's full-court pressure helped create 20 Redmond turnovers in the nonleague game. Lauren Ashbaugh scored 15 points and gathered 20 rebounds, while Aubrey McFadyen collected 26 points for the Mustangs (5-4).
