Killer Of Witness In Oregon Charged In California Slaying
PORTLAND - Authorities say a 30-year-old man convicted of killing a nurse during a supermarket robbery used the same gun to shoot a police officer in Los Angeles County.
A Hillsboro jury last week found Roger H. Brady guilty of aggravated murder in the death of 55-year-old Catalina Correa, a resident of Bonny Slope, who witnessed the robbery. The shooting took place Aug. 3, 1994, outside a Safeway store in the Portland suburb of Cedar Hill.
The same jury will begin hearing the penalty phase of the trial Tuesday to decide whether Brady will receive the death penalty.
California officials said Brady also could face the death penalty if he is convicted in the December 1993 slaying of Martin Ganz, a police officer in Manhattan Beach, Calif.
Brady allegedly shot Ganz, 29, during a traffic stop in a mall parking lot. Police said he shot the officer with the same .380-caliber semiautomatic pistol used to shoot Correa about eight months later.
