Bicyclist Killed By Hit-Run Driver
SEATTLE - A 28-year-old Ballard woman, Nora Folkenflik, was killed by a hit-and-run motorist last night in the 2400 block of Westlake Avenue North.
A suspect was in custody this morning.
The woman was riding her bicycle northbound in the curb lane at about 10:30 p.m. when she was struck from behind by a car that changed lanes to pass another vehicle, said Seattle police information officer Sean O'Donnell.
The motorist fled without stopping. Folkenflik died at the scene.
The incident was reported to police by the driver of the car being passed, who used a cellular telephone to call 911.
Aided by a description supplied by the driver, police later found the suspect's car stopped at North 34th Street and Fremont Avenue North.
The owner of the car was waiting with it when police arrived and gave officers conflicting statements about his activities last night. He was jailed for investigation of hit-and-run driving, police said.
