1 Cited So Far Under Sidran Sidewalk-Sitting Ordinance

Since City Attorney Mark Sidran's sidewalk-sitting ordinance went into effect in June, 10 citations have been issued. Five were issued to one person, David Todd, who loitered near the corner of Fifth and Pike in downtown Seattle. Five other individuals were ticketed in the University District.

The law bans sitting or lying on the sidewalk in downtown and neighborhood commercial districts between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m.

Those cited have received $20 tickets and face three options: They can pay, they can request a hearing, or they can decline to do anything, which would result in a misdemeanor.

So far, only one person ticketed in the University District requested a hearing, which was postponed until next week.
