Bill Cosby Loses Multipenny Suit

NEW YORK - Actor Bill Cosby yesterday was ordered to pay 20 cents to a New York photographer who sued him for roughing him up at a 1992 benefit in Manhattan.

A jury found the performer had touched and shoved the photographer but said the photographer was 90 percent responsible.

The jury awarded "nominal damages" of $1 each for the assault and battery claims. But because it determined Cosby was only 10 percent responsible, he must pay Daily News photographer Richard Corkery 20 cents.

Corkery hailed the jury's decision "a victory" even though he had sought $3 million in damages.

Cosby was not in court when the jury announced its verdict. Cosby's lawyer, William Cavanaugh, said he would've paid Cosby's damages himself except he had only a quarter. "I don't want to overpay," he said.
