`Melrose' Had No Place For Gay Kiss

LOS ANGELES - The two men shook hands, shared a long, meaningful look and moved toward each other in slow motion. But there was no gay kiss on last night's season finale of "Melrose Place."

Producer Darren Star had filmed the kiss, but said the decision on whether it would air was up to Fox network executives. Star said his intention was to show a gay man who has a "well-rounded life."

When the show was aired, the camera cut away from the two men and showed another character watching with a shocked expression from a window. Fox has gained a reputation as the most outrageous network on TV. "In Living Color" had a recurring sketch that mocked gay men. The network had no comment yesterday on the missing kiss.
