Cobain's Widow, Daughter Only Heirs To Estate

SEATTLE - Rock star Kurt Cobain, who took his life last month, had assets of at least $1.2 million and debts of less than $740,000 but apparently did not leave a will, according to papers filed in King County Superior Court.

Cobain's widow, singer Courtney Love, and their 21-month-old daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, are the only heirs to his estate as long as there is no will. A judge appointed his widow as executor of the estate last week.

State law requires that an inventory of assets and debts be filed with the court, including claimed debts, within four months.

The 27-year-old singer-guitarist in the internationally recognized grunge-rock band Nirvana killed himself with a shotgun April 5 in a room over the garage of his $1.1 million Lake Washington home.
