Boys Basketball -- Gig Harbor Forces Knot Atop Pcl

GIG HARBOR - Four players scored in double figures as Gig Harbor knocked off White River 67-50 last night and forced the Hornets into a first-place tie with Washington.

Washington and White River, both 14-3, share first place going into Friday night's regular-season finales. Washington (15-4 overall) plays at Gig Harbor while White River, 14-5 overall, faces Peninsula (9-8, 12-8) in Buckley.

The race is tight with one game remaining. Gig Harbor is 13-4 and Enumclaw fell to 12-5 after a 74-67 loss at Washington.

Todd Stepan came off the bench to score six points in the second quarter when Gig Harbor outscored White River 20-8. Stepan had 10 points for the game.

White River scored only two points after the 4:19 mark of the fourth quarter. Bryan Kiehl had five rebounds in the final minutes for the Tides and he also finished with 11 points. Matt Mosley led the Tides with 14 points.

Michael Kruse topped White River with 10 points.

Gig Harbor made 21 of 36 free throws. White River was six for 14 at the foul line.

OTHER GAMES

At Washington 74, Enumclaw 67 - Mark Warren had a big third quarter for Enumclaw. Unfortunately for the Hornets, Washington's Joe Canion had a bigger fourth quarter. Canion hit three three-pointers in the final period to rally the Patriots to a Pierce County League victory over Enumclaw.

Washington led 33-22 at halftime, but the Hornets outscored the Patriots 28-15 in the third quarter as Warren, who finished with 25 points, and Paul Felker combined for 18 points for Enumclaw.

But Canion, a senior guard who finished with 35 points, hit three of his five treys during a stretch in the middle of the fourth quarter as Washington gained a 26-17 advantage in the period.

Enumclaw (12-5, 13-6) closes the regular season tomorrow night at Franklin Pierce (5-12, 5-14).

At Tahoma 80, Franklin Pierce 71 - Senior post Jamie MacQuarrie posted 15 points, 13 rebounds and three assists for the Bears (5-12, 7-13) in the PCL victory. James Gaines tallied a game-high 27 for the Cardinals (5-12, 5-14). Greg Schoby added 18 points for Tahoma while Tom Hawken scored 12.

Foster 84, at Orting 21 - Lewis Carver scored 19 and Sean Olcott added 17 points, as the Bulldogs (9-7, 12-7) pressed the Cardinals (1-14, 1-18) into 37 team turnovers in the Nisqually League game. Foster played without leading scorer Bam Lewis.

At Seattle Christian 83, Chimacum 57 - The Warriors outscored the Cowboys 32-10 in the second quarter to take a 54-27 halftime lead on their way to Nisqually League victory. Seattle Christian (10-6, 13-7) finished tied for third in the Nisqually League with Eatonville. Jeffrey Bukoski led Seattle Christian with 21 points, including 19 in the first half. Kyle Clapp added 11 points and Stefan Lindblad had 10 for Seattle Christian. Paul Johnson led Chimacum (2-14, 3-17) with 14 points and Sam Barnes added 11.

At Bethel 51, Lakes 28 - The Streleskis brothers, Marc and Brian, combined for 30 points as the Braves (10-10) won the SPSL South Division tiebreaker playoff at Sumner. Bethel Coach Mike Mullen won 300th game at the high-school level (300-194 record). The Braves will challenge Kent-Meridian in the SPSL tournament on Saturday at Puyallup High School at 12:30 p.m. in a winner-to-district, loser-out game.

At Olympic 42, Bremerton 39 - Ryan Dotson scored 10 points with 10 rebounds and made a steal with 12 seconds remaining to help preserve the Olympic League win for Trojans (5-4, 12-7). The Knights (3-6, 7-13) fouled Bryan Stalter and he iced the game with two free throws.

North Kitsap 93, Port Angeles 71 - David Lord pumped in 32 points as North Kitsap (5-4, 6-13) helped create a three-way logjam for first place in the AAA portion of the Olympic League. James Madison scored 25 points for Port Angeles (5-4, 11-8).
