Hiking fatality A 45-year-old woman hiking on Del Campo Peak in eastern Snohomish County tumbled to her death this weekend.

Sharon Koffman, a Canadian citizen living and working in Seattle, died after she fell Saturday afternoon, said Snohomish County Sheriff's spokesman Elliott Woodall.

Koffman and a friend, Morris Williams, of Seattle, were hiking up the 6,610-foot peak when they reached the end of the trail and began rock climbing.

Williams, who was not injured, went one way and Koffman another, said Barb Mallory, medical investigator for the Snohomish County medical examiner's office.

Koffman grabbed a loose rock and fell 10 to 15 feet down a vertical slope before tumbling another 130 feet, Mallory said.

Snohomish County search-and-rescue workers attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation but were unsuccessful. A rescue helicopter airlifted Koffman's body to more stable ground, Woodall said.

The accident was the second fatal hiking-related accident in Snohomish County this year. It has been a relatively , which has generally been a mild season one for such hiking accidents due to the cool, cloudy weather, Woodall said.
