Nisqually League Football Capsules
CHARLES WRIGHT TARRIERS
-- Coach - Bruce Haertl, 16th year.
-- 1992 record - 3-5 in league (tied for fifth), 3-6 season.
-- Returning starters - Graham Edgar, C/DL, 6-2, 213; Brian Forsythe, OL/DL, 6-2, 209, Sr.; Dale MacKinnon, QB/DB, 6-2, 208, Sr.; Donal Botkin, RB, 5-11, 193, So.; Andy Duke, RB, 5-10, 180, Jr.; Ben Falk, WR/DB, 5-9, 155, Jr.; Mike Cooney, WR/LB, 5-10, 160, Sr.
-- Key newcomers - James Howard, RB/LB, 5-10, 160, Fr.
-- Outlook - Haertl started the program in 1962 and ran it until 1977. He's back with a solid group of players, including a good-sized quarterback with a strong arm. Skill positions are filled with quality players.
CHIMACUM COWBOYS
-- Coach - Keith Reardon, fourth year.
-- 1992 record - 2-6 in league (7th), 3-6 season.
-- Returning starters - Mike Klatt, TE/LB, 6-1, 200, Sr.; Jesse Weixel, OL/DL, 6-3, 220, Sr.; Ryan Maneval, RB/DB, 6-1, 180, Sr.; Trevor Huntingford, OL/DL, 5-11, 230, Sr.; Casey Eafield, WR/DB, 5-9, 140, Sr.; Rick Martin, QB, 5-8, 160, So.
-- Key newcomers - Charlie Johnston, OL/DL, 6-3, 220, So.
-- Outlook - Chimacum has a good line and strong quarterback but must find receivers. The Cowboys will run the ball while they find out who to throw the ball to.
EATONVILLE CRUISERS
-- Coach - George Fairhart, first season.
-- 1992 record - 9-0 league, 13-0 overall, Class A state champions.
-- Returning starters - Bobby Lucht, QB, 6-1, 180, Jr.; Brady Coburn, WR, 6-1, 170, Sr.; Jake Headlee, WR/DB, 6-0, 175, Sr.; Joe Armstrong OL/DL, 6-2, 220, Sr.
-- Key newcomers - Danny Doll, WR/DB, 5-10, 150, Jr.
-- Outlook - If tradition means anything, Eatonville will be OK despite losing a lot to graduation. Lucht is one of the top passers in the state and is a two-time all-stater. Inexperience on both lines will hurt.
FOSTER BULLDOGS
-- Coach - Mike Shannon, 13th year.
-- 1992 record - 1-7 league (tie for 8th), 1-8 season.
-- Returning starters - Doug Whitley, QB/DB, 5-10, 150, Sr.; Mike Lawson, WR/DB, 6-0, 175, Sr.; Otis Milam, FB, 5-8, 195, Sr.; Ryan Highland, TE, 6-0, 170, Sr.; Ryan Parker, WR, 5-10, 155, Sr.; Trevor Larson, slot, 5-8, 147, Jr.; Donovan Brines, C, 6-0, 212, Sr.; Bill Matteson, LB, 6-2, 186, So.; Omar Carter, CB, 5-9, 168, Jr.
-- Outlook - Foster has skill positions filled with experienced players, led by quarterback Whitley. That is important because Foster throws the ball a lot. Both lines are a bit thin.
ORTING CARDINALS
-- Coach - Todd de Carteret, second year.
-- 1992 record - 3-5 in league (tie for fifth), 4-5 season.
-- Returning starters - Jessi Brumett, RB/LB, 5-8, 170, Sr.; Ken Archer, TE/LB, 5-10, 175, Sr.; Scott Pizl, OL, 6-0, 190, Sr.; Nick Bryant, OL/LB, 5-8, 165, Sr.; James Mann, OL/DE, 6-1, 190, Sr.; Matt Trierwieler, OL/DL, 5-9, 205, Sr.; Dan Daffern, LB, 5-10, 205, Sr.
-- Key newcomers - Joe Don Terry, QB, 5-9, 160, Jr.
-- Outlook - The Cardinals will have to stay healthy because of the lack of depth. Strengths will be in the offensive and defensive lines. Lack of skill-position players will hurt.
PORT TOWNSEND REDSKINS
-- Coach - Jim Roberts, fifth year.
-- 1992 record - 1-7 in league (tie for 8th), 1-8 season.
-- Returning starters - Lance Kruse, OL/DL, 5-10, 205, Sr.; Calan Taylor, TE/LB, 6-3, 210, Sr.; Billy Lindgren, OL/DL, 6-2, 210, Sr.; Kory Winsheimer, WR/DB, 5-10, 165, Sr.; Lonnie Louck, OL/DL, 5-9, 175, Sr.; Paul Lytle, WR/DB, 5-9, 165, Sr.; Richie D'Agostino, QB, 5-10, 160, Jr.
-- Key newcomers - Mike Joy, OL/DL, 6-6, 205, So.
-- Outlook - Last season, Port Townsend had 25 players turn out. This season, 53 showed up. Combine that with quality starters who have returned, and Port Townsend should win a few games this season.
STEILACOOM SENTINELS
-- Coach - Mark Ross, 13th year.
-- 1992 record - 7-1 in league, 9-2 overall, lost to Meridian in second round of state playoffs.
-- Returning starters - Scott Erickson, OL/DL, 6-1, 250, Sr; Frank Tachell, FB/LB, 5-9, 185, Sr.; John Scott, QB, 5-7, 135, Sr.; Sean Lewis, OL, 5-8, 215, Sr.; James Spearman, RB/DB, 5-9, 165, Sr.; George Wright, LB, 5-9, 160, Sr.; Ed Harris, TE/DL, 6-4, 220, Sr.; Mark McCarty, LB, 5-10, 175, Sr.
-- Outlook - Steilacoom did not lose many starters, so experience is a plus. Playoff experience from last season won't hurt either. The players aren't big, but the team's depth is good.
Vashon Pirates
-- Coach - Mike Hennech, first year.
-- 1992 record - 5-3 in league (fourth), 5-4 season.

-- Key newcomers - Tony Puz, FB, 5-10, 170, Jr.
-- Outlook - New coach Mike Hennech coached at Permian High in Odessa, Texas, so he has a big-time background. Vashon is young (two seniors) but returns some experience at key positions.
