Komo-TV Team Leaving For Nashville
Take them home, country road.
KOMO-TV's husband-and-wife anchor/reporter team, Kerry Brock and John Seigenthaler, are leaving Seattle for Nashville.
Feb. 28 marks their last day at KOMO-TV.
Seigenthaler will be the co-anchor of the 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. weeknight newscasts at Nashville's ABC affiliate WKRN. Brock will be the director of broadcast and programming for the Freedom Forum's First Amendment Center at Vanderbilt University.
Although Brock and Seigenthaler will miss their close friends and Seattle, they both felt it was time to move on. "It's a new challenge," Brock said yesterday. "Change is good."
Brock is also eager to do something a little different. "This is an opportunity for the first time in my 15-year career to step aside from the day-to-day race of TV news and examine what we do thoughtfully," she explained. As broadcasting director, Brock will be in charge of several projects focusing on free-speech issues in broadcast news.
A native of Pasco, Brock has been an anchor/reporter at KOMO-TV for almost 10 years. She also worked as anchor/reporter at stations in Omaha, Boise and the Tri-Cities.
But Brock hasn't left broadcast news entirely. She will be a vacation fill-in anchor at Nashville's WKRN.
For Tennessee native Seigenthaler, going to Nashville is a homecoming. He began his broadcast career as a WKRN producer, then worked as a reporter and anchor at Nashville's WSMV before moving to Seattle's KOMO-TV three years ago.
Seigenthaler said they'll sell their Magnolia house, recently featured in The Seattle Times' Pacific magazine. "The house was a real labor of love," he said. "It's hard to give up."
Will Seattle ever see the return of Seigenthaler and Brock? "It's not out of the realm of possibilities," Seigenthaler said. "This is a crazy business."
