Diana Adams, Lead Dancer For New York City Ballet
SAN ANDREAS, Calif. - Diana Adams, a former lead dancer with the New York City Ballet and American Ballet Theater, died Sunday. She was 66.
She made her debut in the musical "Oklahoma!" in 1943 and a year later joined the Ballet Theater, precursor to the American Ballet. From 1950 to 1963 she performed with the New York City Ballet, dancing the leads in the premieres of "Agon," "Lady of Camellias," "Episodes" and "Liebeslieder Walzer."
While still with the company, she taught at the School of American Ballet. She was later dean, retiring in 1971.
