The Trewin Family

-- The family: Alix and Parker Trewin, their six sons, twins Cork and Scott, 38; twins Jim and Parker (junior), 32; Chris, 36, and Todd, 34, and six grandchildren.

-- The family home: 50-some-acre Rimrock Farms in Redmond, where Alix and Parker settled in 1954. Cork and his parents live on the farm. Todd, Chris and Scott live nearby.

-- They made a bet: When Alix was pregnant for the fourth time in 1960, the couple took out a policy with Lloyd's of London insuring against having twins. When Jim and Parker were born, Lloyd's paid off: $9,000 which allowed the family to buy more acreage.

-- A small family venture: Today Rimrock Farms is nationally known among the equestrian set. Todd rode a Rimrock Farms horse on the U.S. Olympic equestrian team in Barcelona. He competed in the three-day endurance event, a triathlon for horses.

"It was exhausting," Alix says. "There was so much hype beforehand. Did we make the Olympic team? Did we not make the team? We always thought if we did well at the Olympic trials in Kentucky, that in itself would be great. We came in second there." Todd didn't place in Barcelona.

-- Making a living: Todd, Chris and Scott all make their livelihoods in the horse industry, whether it's building barns, fences and jump courses or training.

Cork is a photographer for the Seattle Seahawks. The younger Parker works for a Chicago toy company and Jim works for Campus Crusade for Christ in Minnesota.

The elder Parker retired a few years ago as a sales representative for a boiler manufacturer and now devotes his time to making furniture for family members.

-- Life goes on: As for Alix, she's busier now than when she had six children under the age of 6 at home, what with all the horses and farm duties. "It really wasn't bad. When they went off to school, I had all that time for myself."

Now that most of the boys have children of their own, "I'm learning a lot about what they did when they were kids that I didn't know about," Alix says.
