BOISE, Idaho - Skip Hall announced his resignation as head football coach at Boise State after the Broncos' 62-16 loss to Idaho yesterday.
Idaho clinched the Big Sky Conference's automatic NCAA Division I-AA playoff berth with its victory.
Hall, a former University of Washington assistant coach under Don James, will leave Boise State with a 42-28 record in seven seasons. The Broncos (3-4, 5-6) suffered their first losing season since 1986 this year.
Sherriden May scored three touchdowns and rushed for 104 yards in Idaho's 11th consecutive victory over Boise State.
The Vandals led only 21-13 at halftime.
"We had a game in the first half, but it got away from us," Hall said.
Idaho's Doug Nussmeier passed for 295 yards and two touchdowns, eclipsing the 3,000-yard passing mark for the season.
Idaho (6-1, 9-2) and Eastern Washington (6-1, 7-3) finished tied atop the Big Sky standings, but the Vandals earned the playoff spot with a 38-21 victory over the Eagles Oct. 17.

PORTLAND STATE WINS -- PORTLAND - Bill Matos passed for 328 yards and four touchdowns to lead Portland State past Cal-Davis 42-28 in the first round of the NCAA Division II playoffs. The Vikings (8-3) will host Texas A&I (9-2) in next Saturday's quarterfinals.
