NEW YORK - Hollywood has nothing on Madison Square Garden. First the Knicks bring in Pat Riley, now the Garden's getting its own Walk of Fame.
Twenty-five athletes who starred in "The World's Most Famous Arena" will be inducted on Sept. 15 to the walk, to be located in the main entrance.
More than half the inductees make their mark in basketball, including three coaches. From the NBA are Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Larry Bird, Bill Bradley, Wilt Chamberlain, Bob Cousy, Michael Jordan, George Mikan, Willis Reed and Bill Russell.
Oscar Robertson made it for his college exploits; coaches Nat Holman, Red Holzman and Joe Lapchick will also be inducted.
The best of the rest are boxers Muhammad Ali, Jack Dempsey, Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano and Sugar Ray Robinson; hockey stars Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe, Bobby Orr and Maurice Richard; track stars Glenn Cunningham and Jesse Owens; and tennis great Rod Laver.
The inductees will be honored at a $500 a ticket black-tie dinner which will raise funds for the fight against multiple
