Suit Seeks To Keep Randy Roth's Family From Insurance Claim

A lawsuit has been filed in King County Superior Court to prevent convicted wife-murderer Randy Roth or his family from sharing in any money from insurance on Roth's fourth wife, who was drowned last summer.

Roth, 37, of Woodinville, was convicted last week of first-degree murder in the death of that wife, Cynthia Baumgartner Roth, who died in Lake Sammamish in July.

Cynthia Roth's friend, Lori Baker of Everett, filed the suit Monday. Baker has legal custody of Cynthia Roth's two boys.

In her will, Cynthia Roth named Baker as the person to raise the boys in the event of her death.

The lawsuit seeks to prevent Randy Roth's father, Gordon, who was named trustee of the insurance policy, from acting in that capacity and from receiving any of the money.

It also asks that none of the insurance money go to Greg Roth, Randy Roth's son from a previous marriage.

A state law already specifically denies Roth himself any money.

The suit argues that the insurance money should go to raising the sons of Cynthia Roth.

Cynthia was the second of Roth's four wives to die under suspicious circumstances.

Roth's second wife, Janis Roth, died in a fall from Beacon Rock in Skamania County in 1981.
