Doubles: Jeff Ju, Jr.; Jeremy Kiefer, Sr.; William Lowry, Sr.; Julie Kirkpatrick, So.; Hillary Stamm, So.; Jill Kirkpatrick, Sr.; Randi Fogg, Sr. -- OUTLOOK - Girls are defending state champs, but will be hurt by the transfer of Amber Caisse to Meadowdale. Strength will be in doubles. Nagy and Schanno took first at state, Stamm and Julie Kirkpatrick teamed for third. Kirk and Barnes took fourth at state in boys doubles. Moss will strengthen boys lineup. Will challenge for league title.

ROOSEVELT

-- COACH - Roy Merca, third season. -- 1991 RECORD - 16-0. -- PLAYERS TO WATCH - Singles: Gardner Erickson, So.; Howard Cheng, Sr.; Ryan Corriston, Sr.; Julie Dobrin, Sr.; Heather Seeley, Sr.; Laura Ragee, So.; Cindy Kozu, Sr. Doubles: Scott Kozu, Fr.; Ed Kimm, Jr.; Andy Kim, Jr.; Kelley Greene, Sr.; Jason Kelly, Jr.; R.L. Hooker, Jr.; Alison Theodore, Sr.; Susan Hinds, So. -- OUTLOOK - Roosevelt is former Metro AAA League champion, winner of four in a row. But lineup was severely diluted by gradution of Lisa Proctor and top three boys. Girls are six deep, boys three deep. Freshmen account for most of team's depth. Will be pressed to beat the top Metro AA teams. Should finish in upper third.

BLANCHET

Doubles: Gordy Williams, Jr.; Brandon Feldman; So.; Andy Cline, Fr.; Matt Danne Miller, Fr.; Witney Nagy, Fr.; Teresa Lo, Fr. -- OUTLOOK - The Braves didn't place at district or state last season, but should get a boost from incoming freshmen and sophomores. Both genders have depth. Cline and Feldman are potential state doubles team. McNamee, younger sister of Jim McNamee (Blanchet's only singles champ), will add punch to singles lineup. Should finish in league's upper third.

BALLARD

-- COACH - Jim Knobbs, first season. -- 1991 RECORD - 7-4. -- PLAYERS TO WATCH - Singles: Phu Le, Sr.; Quy Le, Jr.; Chris Bjareborn, Sr.; Michelle Van Patten, Jr.; Kristina Che, Sr.; Melissa Gusaas, Fr. Doubles: Hung Truong, Sr.; Blake Wetterauer, So.; Liem Nguyen, Sr.; Hong Woo, Sr.; Jennifer Uno, Fr.; Risa Dimaunhan, Jr. -- OUTLOOK - Boys look solid, with return of Le brothers, a former state doubles team, and addition of Bjareborn, an exchange student from Sweden. Once again, Ballard will be among the best of the public school teams. Weakness is the girls team, which suffered from large turnover.

CLEVELAND

-- COACH - Jim Leung, first season. -- 1991 RECORD - 8-4. -- PLAYERS TO WATCH - Singles: Liet Huyah, Jr.; Scott Fung, Sr.; Tony Wong, Sr.; Stephanie Ohmiya, Sr.; Alisa Hui, Sr.; Joyce Chin, Sr. Doubles: Sun Choy, Sr.; Gormang Eng, So.; Phillip Ng, Sr.; Josh Timmens, So.; Even Man, Jr.; Calvin Lee, Sr.; Tuan Ken Yu, Sr.; Pedro Castro, Fr.; Kristen Yamamoto, So.; Sue Hoang, Sr.; Ada Leo, Jr.; May Yee, Sr.; Caroline Mah, Jr.; Jennie Eng, Jr. -- OUTLOOK - Tennis is one of the stronger sports at Cleveland. No state returnees or league standouts, but should be competitive among the public schools. Team's strength is in numbers.

-- COACH - Virginia Robinson and Sid Goss. -- 1991 RECORD - 6-3. -- PLAYERS TO WATCH - Singles: John O'Neil, Jr.; Chris Federicci, Fr.; Tony Valuzzo, Sr.; Yoshio Inouye, So.; Ragen Bradfield, Sr.; Rachel Gillis, Fr.; Andi Matack, Jr. Doubles: Yoichi Inouye, Jr.; Bob Ho, Jr.; Chris Mathias, So.; Jennifer Canter, Jr.; Sarah Greg, Fr.; Stephanie Piche, Fr. -- OUTLOOK - Graduation of top players, Aaron Girvin and Kathleen O'Neil left a young team. Girls are especially green, with only two varsity returnees. Boys team has depth. John O'Neil is a state hopeful, after finishing fifth at state last year. Will do well in spots.

GARFIELD

-- COACH - Tony Fore, 11th season. -- 1991 RECORD - 8-4. -- PLAYERS TO WATCH - Singles: Jamal Asif, Sr.; Paul Lee, Jr.; Miles Armstrong, Sr.; Tove Martin, Sr.; Amy Lee, Sr.; Joyce Wu, Sr. Doubles: Bobby Burnette, Fr.; Darren Winston, Fr.; Josh Magnuson, Sr.; Jamie Chaijoren, Jr.; Eileen Shy, Sr.; Liz Cheung, Sr.; Kristin Hayashi, Jr.; Elaine Knobbs, Jr. -- OUTLOOK - A good nucleus returns, including top three boys. Boys lineup padded by transfers. One of Garfield's best squads. Parity among the top five players (boys and girls). Should be competitive with league's upper third.

FRANKLIN

-- COACH - Gregory Dart, first season. -- 1991 RECORD - 4-6. -- PLAYERS TO WATCH - Singles: Ian Anderson, Jr.; Rick Wilson, Jr.; Norman Chin, So.; Phoebe Anderson, So.; Jacy Chin, So.; Vicky Yuen, So. Doubles: Kevin Nguyen, Jr.; Jake Monroe, Jr.; Eric Vongsady, So.; Dennis Sikhanthat, Sr.; Nikone Xaylavong, Sr.; Christina Wong, Jr.; Alice Choi, So. -- OUTLOOK - Brother-sister tandem of Ian Anderson and Phoebe Anderson won two individual league titles last year. Both will be hard pressed to repeat against new Class AA opponents. The Quakers have enough depth to be competitive.

INGRAHAM

Lack of experience will keep the Rams down again. Should be competitive among the lower-end teams. Turnout and enthusiasm are high.

RAINIER BEACH

Winfield, fourth season. -- 1991 RECORD - 1-8. -- PLAYERS TO WATCH - Singles: Felino Mandac, Jr.; Maraan Wylie, Jr.; Brian Watanabe, Jr.; Sherly Stacy, Sr.; Mika Leatherman, Sr.; Degracia Mandac, Sr. Doubles: Datman Woo, Jr.; Tony Chang, Sr.; Michael McCallister, Fr.; Joyce Ng, Sr.; Tina Woo, Sr.; Judiet Dere, Jr.; Marianne Wong, Jr.; Wendy Leatherman, Fr.; Michelle McAllister, Fr.; -- OUTLOOK - Girls are in good shape with return of Stacy (Metro semifinalist) and Mika Leatherman (district quarterfinalist) and two veteran doubles teams. Two more newcomers, Wendy Leatherman and Michelle McAllister, have tourney experience. But boys lost top five to graduation. Big turnover will hurt them. Will do well in league on strength of girls team.

WEST SEATTLE

-- COACH - Karen Flor, first season. -- 1991 RECORD - 0-10. -- PLAYERS TO WATCH - Singles: Howard Mun, Jr.; Ben Chan, Sr.; Shun Lee, Sr.; Tina Hoida, Sr. Doubles: Somatra Sen, Sr.; Aaron Johnson, Sr.; Sue Lew, Sr.; Sarah Wolfe, Sr. -- OUTLOOK - The Indians still don't have a full team. Breaking its two-year losing streak will be a task for first-year coach Flor. Most of the players are relative newcomers. Mun had a winning record at No. 3 singles last year. Indians need more players to break out of slump.

CHIEF SEALTH

-- COACH - Nels Enquist, third season. -- 1991 RECORD - 2-7. -- PLAYERS TO WATCH - Singles: Han Kim, Sr.; Trang Vu, Sr. Doubles: Tin Hoang, Jr.; Vu Tran, Jr.; Joo Ryung No, Sr.; Tamara Hagar, Jr.; Minhee Sok, Sr. -- OUTLOOK - Boys team almost completely depleted, with exception of Han Kim. Girls also lost several seniors. Trang Vu is top girls player. Team will struggle to be competitive.

HALE

-- COACH - Gary Case. -- 1991 RECORD - 3-6. -- PLAYERS TO WATCH - Singles: Chris Lane, Sr.; Phiroce Ishaque, Sr.; Van Vuong, Sr.; Ji Seon Lee, Sr.; Jaya Narayanan, Sr.; Amanda Nguyen, Jr. Doubles: Brian Lade, So.; Ken Tho, Jr.; Daryl Yao, Jr.; Henry Wang, Jr.; Chris Giroux, Sr.; Andy Woo, Sr.; Melinda Ng, Jr.; Hong Lim, Jr.; Salina Chan, Jr.; Le Quan (Tami) Duong, Jr.; Christian Cheng, Jr.; Linh Le, So. -- OUTLOOK - Most of the girls return. Only lost two seniors. Girls are gaining experience, but still have a long way to go. Boys team graduated several seniors. Players are inexperienced, but there is parity in the lineup. Lane is Hale's best shot for a district entry. He has the talent, but not the year-round experience.
