Hal Wolf, 65, Former State Representative

OLYMPIA - Former state Rep. Hal Wolf of Yelm, Thurston County, died of cancer on Thursday (Jan. 9). He was 65.

Mr. Wolf, a Republican, served in the House from 1965 through 1973 and was majority whip during the 1971 and 1972 sessions.

Mr. Wolf operated a grocery store in Yelm for 30 years and started a program called Business Week in 1976 that taught high-school sophomores and juniors about free enterprise. The first course had an enrollment of 225 students. That grew to 1,800 students last year. Mr. Wolf spent six weeks each summer leading the program.

In 1988, President Reagan appointed Mr. Wolf as regional administrator for the Small Business Administration.

Mr. Wolf is survived by his wife, Peggy; two sons, Mark and Harold; and a daughter, Diana.

A memorial service will be held Jan. 26 in the auditorium of the Yelm Middle School.
