Giants Update
NOTES -- Everett returns home a game over .500 after splitting a four-game series in Eugene. The Giants (7-6) play a four-game series with the Yakima Bears, the Los Angeles Dodgers' Class A affiliate, beginning tonight at 7 at Everett Memorial Stadium. The final game of the series will be a 2 p.m. Fourth of July game Thursday. -- Jarod Juelsgaard, counted on to be a mainstay in the Everett bullpen, pitched four innings of shutout baseball yesterday to collect the victory in Eugene. The right-hander from Iowa State University allowed one earned run in 3 1/3 innings Friday. -- Dax Jones, who had trouble adjusting to a wooden bat in his first few games in Everett, has turned around. After a 1-for-13 start, the outfielder from Creighton University has been hitting at close to .300 and added is first home run of the season yesterday during the Giants' 7-1 victory at Eugene. Jones helped the Omaha, Neb., school reach the College World Series with a .375 batting average this spring. -- Mike "Moose" Adams, sidelined with tendenitis in his throwing shoulder, should be ready to pitch against the Bears. Adams, who graduated from Juanita High School, has appeared in only one inning thus far this season. -- Kennewick pitcher Lenny Ayres became the first Giants' pitcher to go the distance this season, checking Eugene on five hits in a seven-inning game Friday to raise his record to 2-1. Ayres, a converted relief pitcher in his second season with the Giants, had a 5-run lead after two innings and the pitcher responded by shutting out the Emeralds for six innings, allowing only an earned run in the seventh. -- The Giants will make up their rained out game with Bellingham July 8 in Everett as part of a doubleheader. The teams will play two seven-inning games.
