Nintendo, Philips Join In Games On CD

TOKYO

Japan's Nintendo Co. Ltd. has agreed to with Dutch electronics maker Philips Electronics NV to put its popular video games on compact discs, a Nintendo spokesman said today.

CD-I merges audio, video, text and graphics on a five-inch compact disc. The information can be displayed and manipulated on a television screen.

Consumer models of CD-I players will be available in the U.S. at the end of this year. No date has been set for the launch of the CD-I Nintendo games.

Industry analysts said the tie-up with Philips was unlikely to have a big impact on Nintendo, now struggling to maintain profit

growth.
