Two Slain In Detroit Meat-Market Robbery -- Gunman Also Wounds Three, Two Critically

DETROIT - A man robbed a meat market on the city's west side today, then shot the owner, his wife and three other people, killing two and critically wounding two others, police and neighbors said.

``A lone male, armed, committed a robbery, taking an unknown amount of cash, and then shot the five people in the store,'' police Sgt. Christopher Buck said. ``All the group had gunshot wounds in the head.''

A 62-year-old man, identified by neighbors as owner Bob Roberts, was dead at the scene, and a 19-year-old man was dead on arrival at Providence Hospital, Buck said.

Two women, ages 45 and 27, were in critical condition and a 19-year-old man was in temporarily serious condition at Mount Carmel Hospital, Buck said.

Police were seeking the gunman but hadn't yet identified a suspect, Buck said.

A customer discovered the shooting, neighbor Ron Kujat said.

Other neighbors said Roberts' wife and several store employees were among the victims.
