A man accused of killing a woman after she bit him during oral sex was found guilty of aggravated murder yesterday and faces a possible death sentence.
Brian D. Hessel, 35, was found guilty by a Multnomah County Circuit Court jury of aggravated murder and murder for the Oct. 21, 1989, death of Heidi R. Dozler, 21, of Albany, Ore.
Prosecutors said during the trial that Hessel strangled and fatally beat Dozler to cover up a forcible sexual assault on her.
Defense lawyer Kenneth Morrow tried to convince the jury that Hessel should be convicted of a lesser charge because he was under the influence of an extreme emotional disturbance after Dozler bit him.
The sexual encounter and death took place in Hessel's car on a secluded road. Hessel had been driving Dozler back to her car after they smoked crack cocaine on Hessel's houseboat.
