That Brainy Bosworth

Former Seattle Seahawks linebacker Brian Bosworth was described by Seattle Times sports columnist Steve Kelley in his typically gentle way as ``a fraud, a lemon, a jerk, a 245-pound mouth.'' He may have been all that, but it turns out that Bosworth was not dumb.

Money Magazine reports in its September issue that Bosworth cut himself a good deal on his disability insurance policy.

Cut by the Seahawks in July, Bosworth will collect about $5 million in a lump-sum disability payment from Lloyd's of London. Money said Bosworth paid for the policy himself with money the Seahawks deducted from his salary. ``As a result, the payout will be entirely tax-free,'' Money said. Had the Seahawks paid the premium, taxes on the lump sum could have topped $1.4 million.
