5 Killed On State Roadways During Labor Day Weekend

Fourteen people, including a teen-age bicyclist, died in traffic accidents on Washington state roads over the Labor Day weekend, the State Patrol said.

Saturday was the deadliest day, when eight people died in six accidents.

Four people were killed in two accidents in Yakima County.

According to the State Patrol's communications department in Olympia:

-- Kevin Hermansen, 23, of Vancouver, Wash., died yesterday in a car-truck accident a half-mile north of Woodland on Interstate 5 in Cowlitz County.

-- A 14-year-old bicyclist, James Fairbanks of Spanaway, Pierce County, was struck and killed by a car yesterday on 82nd Avenue East, north of 224th Street East and one mile west of the Pierce County town of Graham.

-- Chad Martinson, 18, of Tacoma was injured yesterday in a two-car accident on a road one mile south of Tacoma. Martinson died early this morning.

-- An elderly Yakima couple was killed Sunday in a two-car accident one mile west of Yakima on Highway 12. The victims were identified as Alfred Wishon, 88, and Carolyn Wishon, 84.

-- In Whatcom County, Donald Clouser, 30, died instantly Sunday when his car smashed into another vehicle on southbound I-5 near the Samish Way exit in Bellingham.

-- Roger Kennedy, 24, of Poulsbo died in a one-car accident Saturday in Kitsap County on Crystal Springs Road south of Winslow.

-- Donald Cary, 23, and Gary Myler, 22, both of Kingston, died in a one-car accident Saturday in Kitsap County two miles southwest of Kingston on Barber Cutoff south of Highway 104.

-- Mark Bellemore, 20, of Redmond, Ore., was killed in a car-truck accident Saturday in Klickitat County 13 miles west of Roosevelt on Highway 14.

-- Raymond Lavallie, 30, of Yelm died in a one-car accident Saturday in Pierce County in the 8500 block of 176th Street, five miles south of Puyallup.

-- A 26-year-old Toppenish man and a 36-year-old Beverly man were killed Saturday when their two cars collided on the Yakima Valley Highway about 2 1/2 miles north of Wapato. The names of the victims were being withheld pending notification of relatives.

-- Peter Schryver, 23, of Tacoma died Saturday when his motorcycle missed a curve on Highway 509 north of Fourth Avenue South in Federal Way.
