Elway Sheds No Tears For Bosworth -- `Mr. Ed' Says Boz Will Flop In Films

Let's just say John Elway isn't shedding any tears for The Boz.

The Seattle Seahawks waived linebacker Brian Bosworth this week and Denver's quarterback did not dress in black for the occasion.

``I'm not going to miss him,'' Elway said. ``I'm sure he'd like to play, but my heart's not falling out for him.''

Their differences have been documented. In his first game against the Broncos in 1987, Bosworth promised to get at least one shot in on Elway. He did. In his 1988 book, Bosworth made fun of Elway's appearance, calling him ``Mr. Ed.''

Elway rarely would say anything on the record about Bosworth. He was, however, caught in a newspaper photograph showing Bosworth what he thought of him with a hand gesture. Not much has changed.

``I hate to see that happen to anybody, even him,'' Elway said. ``But he got out of the NFL what he wanted: money and attention.''

Bosworth will collect $7.3 million from an insurance policy against injury.

``That's too bad,'' Elway said.

Bosworth hopes to gain more attention with an acting career. He is starring in ``The Brotherhood,'' a movie being filmed in Mississippi. Be certain Elway will not see it.

``I won't even rent it. Even if you get it free with another rental, I won't get it.''

And what does Elway think of Bosworth's chances as an actor?

``I'm sure he'll talk his way out of that industry, too,'' he said.

Bengals sign Munoz

-- CINCINNATI - The Cincinnati Bengals signed three players to new contracts, including All-Pro offensive tackle Anthony Munoz, tight end Jim Riggs and ninth-round draft choice Mitchell Price.

Munoz, 6-foot-6 and 284 pounds, is a nine-time Pro Bowl pick and was a unanimous pick on the NFL team of the 1980s.

Riggs, 6-5 and 245, was drafted in the fourth round in 1987.

Chandler leaves camp

-- INDIANPOLIS - Quarterback Chris Chandler's stay at the Colts' training camp was a brief one.

Chandler, unhappy with his contract, left after taking a physical. He could be fined for each day he remains out of camp.

``They either have to do something for me or get rid of me,'' Chandler said.

Coach Ron Meyer said: ``I kind of feel sorry for Chris. One thing that highlights or earmarks any great athlete is his ability to compete. He now has denied this.''

Hairston joins Cardinals

-- PHOENIX - ``Big Daddy'' is on the move again. Defensive end Carl Hairston, a 14-year veteran, was claimed off waivers by Phoenix. He anchored the Cleveland defensive line the past six years with 37 1/2 quarterback sacks.
