Kevin Mcmahon, Led Local Office Of Giant Northwest Law Firm

Kevin C. McMahon, 45, managing partner in the Seattle office of one of the largest law firms in the Pacific Northwest, was fatally injured last Thursday in a highway accident near Libby, Mont.

A brother, Thomas McMahon, 37, of Baldwinsville, N.Y., also was killed in the accident.

Kevin McMahon headed the Seattle office of Stoel Rives Boley Jones & Grey, which has about 200 attorneys in branches in Oregon, Washington, St. Louis and Washington, D.C.

A third brother, Richard McMahon, 43, a Kalispell, Mont., builder, said the three of them had been skiing for about a week at Big Mountain near Whitefish, Mont. McMahon said his brothers were en route to go helicopter skiing in British Columbia when the accident occurred.

The Montana Highway Patrol reported that a westbound car driven by Kevin McMahon went out of control on a curve on Highway 2 about 11:30 a.m. Thursday and collided with an eastbound logging truck. The driver of the truck was not injured.

A specialist in corporate finance and securities law, Kevin McMahon was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1969 and the Washington State Bar in 1972. Born in Minneapolis and reared in Scarsdale, N.Y., he earned his law degree from Harvard Law School.

In June 1987, when Stoel, Rives, Boley, Fraser & Wyse, the largest law firm in Portland, merged with the law firm of Jones, Grey and Bayley of Seattle, Kevin McMahon was named the managing partner in Seattle for the new firm.

McMahon was a frequent lecturer at bar association and securities programs and was the author of several articles on securities laws and regulations. He was also past co-chairman and a board member of the Mount Baker Youth Service Bureau.

Kevin McMahon also is survived by his wife, Pamela; two sons, Brooks, 16, and Michael, 10; a daughter, Lisa, 19; his mother, Jane McMahon, Litchfield, Conn.; and a sister, Jane Endicott, Irving, Texas.

A Mass of Christian burial will be said at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow at St. James Cathedral. A wake will be held from 7 to 9 tonight at the Hoffner Fisher & Harvey Funeral Home in Seattle.
