Officer loses gear in theft from car
Seattle police and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) are investigating the theft of bullets, a bullet-proof vest and other gear from a fisheries officer's locked car.
The officer, whose name was not released, had parked his car in the secure garage at the Dwell Roosevelt condominiums in North Seattle when his car was prowled, said NOAA spokesman Brian Gorman.
The break-in occurred either late on Halloween night or early Wednesday morning, police said.
Also taken, Gorman said, was a duty belt, four Glock magazines and a shirt and jacket bearing the words "Federal Agent."
NOAA doesn't forbid officers from leaving such items in a locked car, Gorman said.

Guard pleads guilty to sex misconduct
A King County corrections officer avoided a trial later this month by pleading guilty Friday to charges of custodial sexual misconduct in the second degree and assault in the third degree.
Cedric McGrew is the second jail guard to plead guilty to such allegations. Louis G. Laurencio, also charged with custodial sexual misconduct for being inappropriate with a female inmate, is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 1.
McGrew was investigated for having sexual contact with a female inmate in March 2005 at the King County Jail.
The charge of assault involves a female inmate he first met at the jail and with whom he had sexual contact while she was on work release in 1999.
Sentencing is scheduled for 1 p.m. Dec. 15 before King County Superior Court Judge Charles Mertel.
Prosecutors will recommend that McGrew serve a sentence of six months in jail and undergo a mental health/sexual deviancy evaluation and treatment.
In addition, McGrew has agreed to resign his position as a corrections officer and will not work in corrections or law enforcement again.
A third corrections officer charged with sexual misconduct, Harland Richmond, is scheduled for a second trial soon.
The case against Richmond ended in a mistrial in August when the jury failed to agree on a verdict.

Tainted tomatoes tied to salmonella
Contaminated fresh tomatoes served in restaurants were the cause of a recent salmonella outbreak that sickened dozens of people in 21 states, including Washington, health officials said Friday.
The outbreak, now over, sickened at least 183 people, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. There were no reports of deaths, although 22 people were hospitalized.
Interviews with victims, including detailed surveys of what they had eaten and where before falling sick, led investigators to suspect restaurant tomatoes as the cause.
The Food and Drug Administration has begun probing the source of the contaminated tomatoes, said Dr. David Acheson, chief medical officer of the FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition.
In Washington state, officials said one case was reported: a King County woman in her 30s who acquired the bacteria while visiting New Hampshire. She has recovered.
The cases of illness peaked in late September, leading officials to believe the outbreak is over.

Woman still sought in man's shooting
Everett police said Friday that they made one arrest and found a missing woman they were seeking in connection with an October shooting.
Snohomish County Sheriff's deputies found James Russell Smith, 29, in South Snohomish County.
Smith was wanted for questioning in the shooting of a 43-year-old Everett man Oct. 19 in the 700 block of Linden Street, Everett Police Sgt. Boyd Bryant said.
With Smith, deputies found Micki Nichole Marth, 30, Bryant said. Marth lived at the address of the shooting and hadn't been seen since, he said.
Police believed Marth was in danger, but she was in good condition when she was found Friday afternoon.
Police are still looking for Kizmet Etta Derby, 33, in connection with the shooting.
The victim is recovering from his injuries and was in stable condition at Harborview Medical Center on Thursday.

2 men in custody after fatal shooting
Everett police have two men in custody in connection with a slaying Friday afternoon in a South Everett home.
Details were scarce Friday, but Everett Police Sgt. Boyd Bryant said police responded to a call in the 9200 block of Holly Avenue about 1:30 p.m. When they arrived they saw two people in a car speeding away from the residence.
Police stopped the car and detained two men in their 20s a short distance from the home, Bryant said. Inside the home police found a dead man who appeared to have been shot, Bryant said.
Renton
Man charged in fatal stabbing
A second-degree murder charge was filed Friday against David William Funderburg, 50, of Renton, accusing him of killing a man near Renton on Sunday. The victim was identified as Danny McCauley in charging documents filed in King County Superior Court.
McCauley's body was found Monday in a ditch in the 9800 block of 148th Avenue Southeast, in unincorporated King County between Renton and Newcastle. An autopsy showed he died of stab wounds.
According to the charges, McCauley lived nearby and friends told detectives he was last seen with Funderburg Sunday night. Investigators went to Funderburg's house in Renton and found a truck with blood inside and what appeared to be blood on Funderburg's shoes and clothes.
Funderburg told detectives he and McCauley got into a fight after leaving a Renton bar, the charges continue. Funderburg said he took McCauley's body to the road because he knew McCauley often walked there and he wanted to make it appear that McCauley had been struck by a car, the charges add.
Funderburg is being held in the Regional Justice Center in Kent in lieu of $1 million bail. His arraignment is set Nov. 14. No trial date has been set.
