16-year-old charged as adult in death

Seattle

A 16-year-old has been charged as an adult with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of a man Tuesday night near Judkins Park and Playfield.

The victim, Michael Phillips, had come to a stop inside a Lincoln Navigator when he was approached by a group of males, according to the charging papers. He was talking with several of them through the driver's-side window when the teen, Tony Lamar Tyson, opened the front passenger-side door and started shooting, the documents say.

The Seattle Times does not usually name juvenile suspects unless they are charged as adults.

After he was shot, Phillips drove the car through the soccer field at Judkins Park, knocking over a lamppost and hitting a fence. Phillips, 47, was taken to Harborview Medical Center and died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the King County Medical Examiner's Office.

Tyson will be arraigned June 12 at the King County Courthouse.

Police are still searching for a second suspect in the shooting.

Kent

Tuberculosis case appears isolated

A tuberculosis case at Kentlake High School in March appears to be isolated, Public Health — Seattle & King County officials said Friday.

The agency tested 200 people considered "close contacts" of the original case. Of those, 20 tested positive last month in skin tests for TB. Further X-rays have confirmed that 10 of those 20 do not have active, contagious TB. Public Health doesn't yet have results of the 10 others.

King County had 127 cases of tuberculosis last year. The Kent person with the original case is still undergoing treatment but is no longer contagious.
