Dania furniture contemporary, but not exclusive

Dania sells: Modern home furnishings, lighting, rugs and accessories.

Price range: From $39 for a silk throw pillow to $4,995 for a black leather sectional.

What's unique? Dania is one of the few home retailers you can rely on for contemporary furniture that isn't priced for people with homes featured in Architectural Digest.

While the massive showroom in Southcenter feels like the average furniture store, Dania warms up its huge space with fabulous mirrors and dramatic lamps.

The store offers designs with contemporary materials such as glass and aluminum.

The low Crafton rectangular coffee table ($325) is functional, and clear circles set in frosted glass that reveal drawer and shelving contents add a modern touch.

Dania also makes design affordable with unusual futons.

The Butterfly sleeper sofa ($495) has looping curves when upright but spreads out into a black vinyl butterfly with yellow stitching when folded down for a sleeping area. Dania also offers a red heart-shaped version.

What's functional? Some shoppers might head to Dania to find the perfect contemporary piece for their home, but the store also offers plenty of affordable, functional furniture.

An armoire from the Cubic line, for example, is available for $269. A matching Cubic queen bed with a headboard is $345.

The store carries modular shelving for bookcases in the Flexo line that you can combine into patterns and use with home-office furniture.

And pieces like the Sterling Park square mirror in a dark cherry finish ($199) would be stunning in a bedroom or living room.

Sales associates say shoppers love the contemporary style of the Oregon sofa in white smoke microfiber, which will transform a living room for an affordable $499.

How does the store work? Some of the products are available right away, while items like sofas might take weeks or months if you ask for a special fabric. You can see Dania's collections online or in its catalogs, but items can be purchased only through the stores.

Good to know: The store typically marks down items in January and July. The Dania store in Southcenter also has a large clearance center in the back — the bargains are sold as is, and they must be picked up within one week.
