Snohomish
Boy, 15, pleads not guilty to murder
A 15-year-old Bonney Lake boy has pleaded not guilty to aggravated first-degree murder in the death of a Snohomish man in June.
Prosecutors said the boy, Austin Mays, and friends Jeremy Boone, 16, of Sumner and Perry Rothermel, 18, of Puyallup beat, robbed and then killed Larry Kloes, 49, at his home. Mays entered his plea Friday.
A judge ruled Thursday that it was in the public's best interest that Mays be tried in an adult court. If convicted, Mays faces a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of release.
A trial date has been set for Nov. 19, but Mays' lawyer is expected to ask for more time to prepare.
Sitka, Alaska
No trace found of missing plane
No trace of a missing floatplane has been found in the sixth day of searching for it and its five occupants in Southeast Alaska.
Coast Guard officials had hoped a break in the weather Friday would turn up signs of the plane's passage, but flyovers of mountain passes the plane may have taken yielded nothing, according to Lt. Matt Moorlag at the Coast Guard's Juneau command center.
Those on board are Joe Murphy of Bremerton, senior vice president of the Washington State Labor Council; his twin brother, Jim Murphy of Sequim; Jerry Balmer of Auburn, Calif.; Lloyd Koenig of Pleasanton, Calif., and pilot Eric Johnson of Sitka.
The group was on a fishing vacation. They took off from Sitka on Monday and were destined for Baranof Wilderness Lodge at Warm Springs Bay to the east of the island.
