• Members of the Bull Stewart Dream Team took second place in the team competition at the 2004 monstermuscle.com National BenchPress and Dead Lift Championships in Portland. The team included four women and three teenagers, ranging in age from 15 to 53.
First-place finishers included 15-year-olds Andrew Stewart II (132 pounds) and Maurice Williams (165 pounds), sons of Bull Stewart and first-time lifters. Mick Stevens, 53, finished first in the dead lift for Master's men (198 pounds).
• Coach Paul Wulff liked what he saw yesterday in Eastern Washington University's final football scrimmage of fall camp, but that didn't apply to the weather.
When they open the season next Thursday against Nicholls State in Thibodeaux, La., in a matter of a week the Eagles will go from rainy and cool playing conditions to hot and humid.
"It's surely not good for having to play next week in Louisiana," said Wulff after his team played for the fourth straight day in unseasonably cool and wet weather.
Eastern's offensive squads moved the ball well, scoring two touchdowns and generating 191 yards in just 31 plays.
