Man arrested in boy's stabbing
WENATCHEE — A man was arrested yesterday in the case of an 8-year-old boy stabbed more than a dozen times by an intruder in his home.
Danny Arndt, whose liver, lungs and throat were injured, was able to call 911 and later describe his attacker to police.
The boy was reported in stable condition yesterday at Central Washington Hospital.
A 21-year-old man was arrested in connection with an unrelated burglary at a home a few blocks from the scene of Tuesday's stabbing, Detective Sgt. Ken Manke said.
The man was booked for investigation of attempted murder and burglary in the attack on the boy, police said.
Jenna Arndt said her son had been playing video games in his home Tuesday; his sister was also in the home. The boy heard a strange noise and later came face to face with the intruder, who chased and caught him, Jenna Arndt said.
Danny called 911 to report that he was bleeding. His mother said she had returned home just as medics arrived.
During the attack, the man repeatedly told the boy he was sorry, police said.
Police recovered a kitchen knife they think was the weapon used and a pair of partially burned pants they think are linked to the crime, Manke said.
Police also said the 21-year-old was apprehended after he tried to break into another home, where he had been chased away by a 9-year-old girl and the housekeeper.
