Condon, Farmer are co-medalists
Co-medalists Alana Condon and Shawn Farmer shot 74s in qualifying yesterday for the Washington State Women's Golf Association Championships at Broadmoor Golf Club in Seattle.
Flighted match play begins today, with the 36-hole championship match Friday.
Condon, a Broadmoor golfer, and Farmer, from Sahalee Country Club, were 1-over par on the 5,854-yard layout. Condon birdied four holes, including the difficult, par-5 first. Farmer eagled the par-4 seventh.
Last year's champion, Leslie Folsom of Sahalee, was next with a 75. Cathy Uptain of Mill Creek shot a 77 and nine-time winner Ann Swanson of Sand Point shot 78.
Jackson named player of week
Lauren Jackson of the Seattle Storm was named WNBA player of the week after averaging 25.3 points and six rebounds in a 3-0 week for the team. She shot 63 percent from the field.

• Paul Houvener of Mill Creek will defend his title in the 29th PNGA Men's Master-40 Amateur next week at Wenatchee Golf and Country Club in Wenatchee. A 36-hole stroke-play qualifier will be followed by match play.
• Lifetime achievement awards will be given Thursday to Pam Copple and Alan Hinton by the U.S. Soccer Foundation and Friends of Soccer-Washington State. Copple is a former president of the Washington State Youth Soccer Association. Hinton's career as a coach has spanned three decades. They will be recognized at an 8 a.m. breakfast at Qwest Field. It will be followed by a fundraising event from 5 to 9 p.m. at Dale Chihuly Studios, featuring Tony DiCicco, former U.S. women's national coach, and soccer player Tiffeny Milbrett.
