Lynnwood man drowns at McCollum Park Pool

EVERETT — A Lynnwood man died Monday after he was pulled unconscious from McCollum Park Pool.

A lifeguard spotted John Moen, 20, at the bottom of the pool shortly before 5 p.m. Paramedics and lifeguards tried to revive Moen but he died that night at Stevens Hospital in Edmonds, said officials with Snohomish County Fire District 1.

Snohomish County Sheriff's spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen said four lifeguards were on duty and nearly 140 people were in the pool area, but no one apparently saw Moen sink beneath the surface. She also said it was unclear how long he was at the bottom.

Jorgensen said Moen was prone to seizures. A spokeswoman for the Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office said the law prohibits her from disclosing a patient's specific medical information.

Ron Martin, Snohomish County parks and recreation director, said authorities did not know of any other drowning in the 33-year history of the outdoor public pool.
